During the reign of the Emperor Peter the Great, the icon was transported to the new capital - Saint-Petersburg, where the Kazan Cathedral was constructed. The architecture of the cathedral is typical for the beginning of the XVII century. A foursquare shapeв cathedral without columns has one main cupola and is decorated with the carinate vaults. From three sides the cathedral is surrounded by hiatal galleries, which lead to the hip bell-tower in the North-Western corner. In the North-Eastern part there is a side-chapel, which is consecrated in honor of Abercius of Hieropolis. Well matched proportions of the cupola and good arrangement of the décor elements create the completeness of the whole composition. The color solution is rather symbolizing. The gold of the cupolas represents the Divine glow, red color is a symbol of the expiatory blood of Jesus Christ, and white color in architecture means chastity and detachment from the secular.
