St. Petersburg authorities have announced the New Year event program. Father Frost (Ded Moroz) from Veliky Ustyug will arrive at St. Petersburg as early as on December, 23. First, he will visit care-giving institutions and open the Christmas Sales in the Pionerskaya Square that will work in St. Petersburg from December, 23 to January, 7.
Then, Father Frost will come to the Palace Square 'by a fairytale locomotive accompanied by his suite’ to join a comprehensive concert program and the Santa’s Race. Besides, the Ice Palace will offer traditional children’s New Year parties for about 205,000 school students.
In the Palace Square, there will be a huge scene similar to an ice castle where famous singers will perform for all comers (residents and guests) at a karaoke concert. Moreover, song lyrics will be displayed on large screens for the audience to join in singing.
It is much more than that. Visitors will take part in a dance flash mob and choir battle as an interactive show with the audience divided into two teams to choose the most active of them. At 3 a.m., the festive fireworks, the most spectacular for an entire history of the holiday, will be above the water area of the Neva. The celebration will have been over by 4 a.m.
In the New Year's Eve, the Nevsky Prospekt will be vehicle-free from 9 p.m. to the morning. In accordance with tradition, the metro will also work around the clock.
