8 and 9 September, Moscow celebrates its birthday
05-09-2018
The day of Moscow is celebrated on the first or second Saturdays of September. This year the celebration will be held from the 8th to 9th. In 2018, the programme is expected to be to be quite eventful, although not as diverse as last year, when a milestone, the 870th anniversary of the capital, was celebrated.
The celebrations are designed to emphasise the historical role of Moscow as an outstanding centre of science, culture, politics and sports. Hundreds of art objects will decorate the capital over these days. The pedestrian zone which will host the street celebrations will be illuminated especially brightly. Under the open sky, theatrical acts and performances by famous singers and musicians, jugglers, acrobats, tightrope walkers and artists of other genres will be held.
For all admirers of art, 90 museums will be open absolutely free in honour of the anniversary of the city!
The traditional places for the main celebrations are Tverskaya street, Red square, Vasilyevsky Spusk, Poklonnaya Hill and Sparrow Hills. Interesting programs will be held in the parks of the city: theatrical performances, concerts, fun games and contests, and sports competitions. Separate areas will be dedicated to different dance styles (ballroom dancing, hip-hop, break dance) and sports (workout, parkour, rollersport, football, tennis).
Finally, the celebrations for the Day of Moscow will end with magnificent fireworks, which will start at 22:00.
