The longest railway tunnel in the world opens in two years

The longest railway tunnel in the world, which will be constructed as a part of the AlpTransit project, starts to function on the 11th of December 2016. 57-kilometer tunnel, which will be laid under one of the Alpine ranges, will reduce the journey time from Zurich to Lugano for 25 minutes. Also, one more tunnel, thanks to which the travel from Zurich to Milan will reduce for three hours, is about to be opened in 2020. According to this project, one more 35-kilometer tunnel will be constructed under the Bernese Alps.
