XXVII Music Festival "Stars of the White Nights" will open on May 22

The extraordinary musical event called "Stars of the White Nights" will be held in St. Petersburg from the 22nd May to the 21st of July. The Mariinsky Theatre's repertoire will include such works as George Benjamin's Lessons in Love and Violence, Giacomo Puccini's La fanciulla del West, and other outstanding works.
The new version of Giacomo Puccini's La fanciulla del West arranged by Arnaud Bernard will be shown in Mariinsky II at the end of the month, on the 24th and 26th of May, as well as on the 14th and 28th of June. The premiere of this opera in Russia took place in 1912 at the Zimin Opera.
On the 4th of July, Mariinsky Theater will show a wonderful opera called Der Zwerg in the concert version, the music for which was written by Alexander von Zemlinsky. The Symphony Orchestra of the opera theatre will be directed by the Artistic Director of the American Symphony Orchestra Leon Botstein. Performers from the Academy of Young Opera Singers will also participate in the event.
On the 9th of July, there will be an opportunity to witness a premiere by British oldest musical collective –the London Chamber Orchestra directed by the outstanding Oliver Zeffman. This is a concert version of the opera called Lessons in Love and Violence by George Benjamin, a composer of English origin, based on the libretto by Martin Crimp, which will be shown in Russia for the first time. The international premiere of the opera was performed in London, Covent Garden in 2018. Moreover, Mariinsky Opera Theatre will present instrumental works by Behzod Abduraimov, Mario Brunello, Pavel Milyukov, and István Várdai.
