‘STARAYA LADOGA – THE FIRST RUSSIAN CAPITAL’: HISTORICAL AND CULTURAL FEST IN STARAYA LADOGA

On July 16-17, Staraya Ladoga, located in the Volkhovsky Raion of the Leningrad Region, at Pobedische urochishche, will host the festival dedicated to the development of the Old Russian State in the 7-11 centuries. Visitors are awaiting for the best historical re-enactment clubs. In their performances, the clubs will try to reconstruct historical events in the most accurate and trustful way and offer to guests an extensive and exciting program of ancient martial arts.

As Staraya Ladoga is historically associated with the name and activities of Russian prince Rurik, the fest atmosphere will be filled with the spirit of antiquity and the ancient history.The fest will be arranged as a theatre show, a plot of which takes place in the historical location where the Slav, Finno-Ugric, and Scandinavian tribes met.

The spectators will be able to see fights, showed symbolically, both group fights and duels. They will also visit a craft fair and learn something useful from viewed stage versions of the Medieval life, living conditions and way of life.The urochishche will also host the Varangian camp with a playground, where kids of all ages will be able to learn military science. Their guides and carers will be participants of the historical project called Town of Funny Amusements.
