Chinese Palace was built for Catherine II in 1762-1768 by architect Antonio Rinaldi. The palace took its name due to the fact that several of its interiors were decorated in the Chinese style. The uniqueness of the Chinese Palace is in its absolute authenticity and style, which has been used in its construction - Rococo, because it never became widespread in Russia, except Oranienbaum. The external appearance of the Chinese Palace is reserved and strict, but its interior amazes with its beauty and elegance: ceiling pictures, written especially for the palace by the Venetian masters of the Academy of Painting and Sculpture. Muse hall is an outstanding one, its walls are decorated with paintings by S. Torelli in tempera, depicting the nine muses. Also, Steklyarusny office is worth attention, it kept the original finish, Great Chinese cabinet, which embodies oriental motifs, Portrait room with its ornate decorations and, of course, the unique parquets in Chinese Palace.
