Russia: Culture and communication
The official language on the territory of the Russian Federation is Russian. It is the most spoken language in Europe and the most widespread Slavic language in general.
In writing it uses the Cyrillic alphabet that greatly differs from the Latin one. So recently in Saint-Petersburg they started doubling the names in Latin so that tourists don’t get lost in the city.
Today the majority of local inhabitants speaks or at least understands English. The young generation learns that or the other foreign language starting at age seven. So if you need any help, you may confidently ask the passersby, they will most likely be able to help.
