Gosudarev Bastion is the western bastion of Peter and Paul Fortress facing the Neva River. Gosudarev Bastion is connected with Naryshkin Bastion by Neva Curtain Wall and with Menshikov Bastion by Peter’s Curtain Wall. Bastion got its name thanks to the fact that its construction was managed by Emperor Peter the Great himself (Tsar or “Gosudar”). Inside the Bastion there were two-storey casemates, connected by the underground tunnel. In XVIII century there were workrooms, storehouse of pipes and powder cellars. In the XIX century in Gosudarev Bastion contained barrack-rooms, hospital for prisoners and bath. During the Great Patriotic War direction-finders were set up here for the revealing of enemy airplanes.Nowadays walking tour “Neva Panorama” takes place here.
