According to the information, the road, which connects Moscow and Tver, existed here in the XII century. Between the XVII and XIX centuries Tveskaya Street was the main capital highway, where the elite houses, hotels and shops were constructed. Among the preserved from that times sights there is the English Club in the house number 21, as one of the centers of the socio-political life of the capital. This architectural monument of the classicism style was erected in 1780, the owner of this building was the poet M. M. Kheraskov. This really palace complex, decorated with colonnade, welcomed such prominent persons as Alexander Pushkin, Leo Tolstoi, Joseph Bove and Dmitry Vladimirovich Golitsyn.
The other building, which didn't change its original appropriation, is Eliseyevsky shop. It was constructed in the end of the XIX century by the rich merchant Grigory Elisseeff and became one of the main shops of the Moscow trade.
Reconstructed in eclecticism style with the elements of modernist style building of the apartment house of Benois, nowadays, Hotel "National", attracts with the numerous stucco.
Here, on Tveskaya Street, the first nine-floor building was constructed, where, later, the first film studio of the country was located. Right along Tversakaya Street in 1820 the first diligences went, as well as, after almost a century, the first electro-lanterns were lightened on Tverskaya Street.
